The Macomb County Poor House was built in 1868. It housed, over the years, thousands of people. Those who were able worked the farm and raised the food for the residents. Grain was taken to a Wolcott Mill for grinding. There were two Wolcott Mills in Mount Clemens at various times and one, which still exists,in Ray Township. In Mount Clemens, one was on Grand Ave, and one at Cass and the RR tracks.
