Here is a plank that was dug up from the Clinton and Kalamazoo Canal at Canal Road and Hayes. The

section is cut at a 45 degree angle. What looks like a piece protruding out of one end and was cut

with a motrise for two pegs at the other end. The spike is 1" square and 12"long. It is hand-made.

This portion of the Canal was built around 1838. The canal workers got angry when they missed a few

paychecks and burned some of the construction. At this site we found a charred timber.
